The SIOPE BTG is a European multidisciplinary and interprofessional association of healthcare professionals and scientists involved in research, treatment and care of children, adolescents and young adults with tumors of the Central Nervous System (CNS).
The group consists of a number of working groups that will either relate to a specific CNS tumor type or be discipline based, relating to CNS tumours in general.
The SIOPE BTG holds an annual – two days – meeting with separate working group meetings and a plenary session on the second day. In addition, the group organizes a yearly business meeting.
The main aim of the SIOPE BTG is to facilitate collaborative basic science research, translational research and clinical trials in the field of CNS tumours. The group has conducted pan European clinical trials on CNS tumors for many decades very successfully including also systematic approach to measure quality of life parameters as outcome parameters.
Training and education in the field of pediatric neuro – oncology is one of the main aims of the SIOPE BTG. Since 2019, the Training and Education group organizes a three years education course covering all aspects of the field. To foster and support young investigators in the field a young investigator group was founded and is mentored by the senior colleagues from the group.
The SIOPE BTG is also one of the pilot groups of the Young SIOPE mentorship program – three mentees have started their at least three years curriculum in 2024.
